How to use this tool
- Add a GIF to the tool. The 1MB target is already selected.
- Start compression and compare the original and output file sizes.
- Preview the full animation at its intended display size.
- Download the result, or use the smaller-width retry if the target was missed and a smaller picture is acceptable.
Keep text readable in a 1MB GIF
Start with 1MB when smaller targets make an interface label or important motion difficult to follow. Long or detailed recordings may still exceed the target, so check the output before embedding it in your document or blog.
Focus the source on one action. Removing an unrelated opening or a long pause in an editor can make the demonstration clearer as well as shorter. CompressGIF does not trim the animation for you.
A smaller download still needs a visual check
Inspect small text, gradients, and the part of the picture that changes most. Compression can reduce color detail while keeping all frames, their timing, and the loop behavior. A result that is smaller on disk is not automatically the best illustration for your readers.
If 1MB looks indistinguishable for your purpose, try 512KB from the original GIF. If the smaller result loses something useful, keep the version that explains the action more clearly.
Check where the GIF will be used
For a web page, consider the other images readers will load alongside this animation. For a message or email, check the destination's upload rule and any other attached files. The 1MB preset is a practical starting target, not the official limit for Discord, X, or Gmail.
Different viewers can handle playback differently. Test the actual document, page, or message after inserting the file, especially when understanding the animation is necessary to follow an instruction.
If the GIF will not reach 1MB
Read the output size before sending it. The explicit 80%-width retry can help if smaller dimensions are acceptable. If fine text needs to stay readable, consider preparing a tighter crop or a shorter source in another editor instead.
Free users can compress three GIFs per batch, each up to 10MB. Pro allows larger source files and custom targets. GIF file contents are processed in your browser and do not need to be uploaded to CompressGIF.
Frequently asked questions
Is the result guaranteed to be below 1MB?
No. The tool tries to reach 1,000,000 bytes and reports the actual result. A target-missed result may need a width retry, source editing, or a larger allowance.
Why does another app display a different file size?
Applications can use different byte units and rounding. CompressGIF's 1MB target uses decimal bytes. Compare actual bytes when you are working close to a strict cap.
Will compression remove frames?
No. The compressor preserves frames and timing. If you need a shorter animation or fewer frames, prepare that version in an editor before compressing it.
Can I compress a video directly to a 1MB GIF?
No. This tool accepts GIF input only. Convert or export the video as a GIF in another application, then compress that GIF here.
