Trim GIF

Keep a continuous part of a GIF by setting its start and end in seconds. Trimming removes playback time; it keeps the original picture dimensions. Use it to cut a pause or keep a short reaction.

Files are processed locally in your browser and are never uploaded. Refreshing or leaving this page loses the current task and files.

The first task downloads about 32 MB of processing components. Your selected files stay on this device.

How to trim a GIF by time

  1. Choose the GIF and check the displayed duration.
  2. Enter a start time and a later end time, both within the original animation. For a 2–5 second clip, enter 2 and 5.
  3. Process, preview the new beginning and end, then download the trimmed GIF.

Choose the time range

SettingWhat to choose
StartSeconds from the beginning of one animation cycle. Use 0 to keep the original opening.
EndMust be after the start and no later than the source duration.
Boundary timingTimes use 10 ms GIF delay units. A frame crossing a boundary keeps only its time inside the range.
GIF inputUp to 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on paid plans; the source must already fit animation limits.

A single result must be 50 MB or smaller. GIF results sent to the compressor must also fit its input limit: 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on a paid plan.

Example: keep seconds 2 through 5

From an 8-second animation, Start 2 and End 5 keep a 3-second clip. The selected frames still play at their original pace. A frame spanning a cut point is shortened at that edge instead of being given its entire original delay.

Shorten playback without cropping the picture

Trim changes the time range. Crop changes the area visible in every frame. To make a short square reaction, trim, download, then select that GIF in Crop GIF.

This version keeps one continuous range. It cannot delete a middle section and join both ends, merge separate GIFs or provide a frame-by-frame timeline. A shorter clip can still need compression to meet a specific KB limit.

Questions about this tool

Can I trim a GIF without changing its speed?

Yes. Frames inside the range keep their original delays; only a frame crossing the start or end has its visible duration clipped. The tool does not speed up the clip to make it shorter.

Will the trimmed GIF loop?

The source loop setting is retained. If the source loops indefinitely, the selected clip loops indefinitely too. Trimming does not add a new loop setting.

Why does my selected time produce no output?

The end must be later than the start and the rounded range must contain display time. Choose a wider range within the displayed source duration; a zero-length range cannot form an animation.

Can this tool trim a GIF that exceeds the source frame limit?

No. The source is validated before editing. A file over 1,000 frames or the total frame-pixel budget cannot be opened just by choosing a shorter output. Export a smaller source from its original editor first.
