How to convert an animated GIF to MP4
- Choose a GIF. Processing requires an active Pro or Developer plan, with GIF inputs up to 50 MB.
- Select Process to convert one full animation cycle. No audio, extra repeated cycles or background-color control is added.
- Play the video preview, check its background and dimensions, then download the .mp4 file.
Know what changes in MP4
| Setting | What to choose |
|---|---|
| Video and sound | H.264 video in an MP4 file, with no audio track. |
| Playback duration | One full GIF animation cycle, regardless of the original repeat count. |
| Background | Transparent source areas are filled with white. MP4 output here does not preserve alpha transparency. |
| Dimensions | White padding makes both sides even and at least 16 px. The source picture is not stretched to fill that padding. |
A single result must be 50 MB or smaller. GIF results sent to the compressor must also fit its input limit: 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on a paid plan.
Example: a looping 401 × 299 GIF becomes a 402 × 300 video
The source picture remains 401 × 299; a white column and row pad the output to even dimensions. A tiny 10 × 10 source is padded to 16 × 16 for playback compatibility. Padding is added at the right and bottom.
If the GIF’s frames make one 3-second cycle, the MP4 contains that cycle once rather than repeating forever. A website or player may still be configured to replay the video.
Choose a video when the destination needs a video
MP4 is useful when an editor, presentation or publishing workflow expects a video file. Check the destination requirements and compare the output size; this tool does not promise a particular reduction.
If you need to keep transparent areas, animated WebP is the alternative offered here. If the destination requires .gif, use GIF compression instead. There is no option to keep alpha transparency, add sound or select a different MP4 background color.
Questions about this tool
Can I convert GIF to MP4 without signing in?
You can choose a GIF before signing in, but processing requires an active Pro or Developer subscription. The upgrade page opens in a separate tab so that the source stays in the tool page.
Why is my transparent GIF now white?
This H.264 MP4 output does not keep an alpha channel. The converter places the GIF over a white background. Choose GIF to WebP if you need an animation format that retains transparency.
Will the MP4 loop as many times as the GIF?
The file contains one complete source animation cycle. Original finite or infinite loop instructions do not add repeated cycles to the MP4; the video player controls whether that file repeats.
Why did the width or height change by one pixel?
H.264 output is padded to even dimensions, with a minimum of 16 × 16. An odd side gets one white pixel at the right or bottom. This padding avoids stretching the original image and supports playback compatibility.
