Crop GIF

Keep the part of an animated GIF you need. Drag a rectangle across the preview or enter X, Y, width and height. Square selection makes an avatar crop without stretching the subject.

Files are processed locally in your browser and are never uploaded. Refreshing or leaving this page loses the current task and files.

The first task downloads about 32 MB of processing components. Your selected files stay on this device.

How to crop a GIF

  1. Choose the GIF and wait for its preview and original dimensions.
  2. Drag from one corner of the area to the opposite corner. Adjust X, Y, width and height for an exact crop, or enable Square selection.
  3. Process and preview the whole animation before downloading. Check that moving subjects stay inside the selected area.

Set an exact crop

SettingWhat to choose
X and YCoordinates start at the top-left of the original GIF. X moves right; Y moves down.
Width and heightEnter the number of pixels to keep. The rectangle must stay inside the original canvas.
Square selectionKeeps crop width and height equal. It removes surrounding pixels rather than stretching the picture.
GIF inputUp to 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on paid plans. Maximum side: 4,096 px; at most 1,000 frames and 50 million frame pixels (width × height × frames).

A single result must be 50 MB or smaller. GIF results sent to the compressor must also fit its input limit: 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on a paid plan.

Example: take a 300 × 300 square from a 640 × 480 GIF

Set X to 170, Y to 90, and width and height to 300. The result keeps that central 300 × 300 area in every frame. These coordinates are an example, not automatic subject detection; a moving face may need a larger selection.

Crop the picture, or trim the playback?

Cropping removes pixels around the selected area while keeping the animation duration. To keep only a few seconds, use Trim GIF. To keep the entire picture but change its dimensions, use Resize GIF.

A crop applies to the same area throughout the animation. This version does not track a subject, detect empty borders or let you set a different crop for each frame.

Questions about this tool

Can I make a square GIF for an avatar?

Yes. Enable Square selection, position it around the subject, and check all frames after processing. The crop stays square without stretching. Check your destination’s pixel and file-size requirements separately.

Does cropping preserve animation and transparency?

The selected area is applied to the composited animation frames, including GIFs that store only changed regions between frames. Frame delays and loop settings are retained, and transparent areas can remain transparent.

Why does the subject disappear in part of my cropped GIF?

The crop is fixed in place. If a subject moves outside that rectangle in later frames, it will be cut off. Enlarge or reposition the selection and process the original again.

Can I automatically remove blank borders from a GIF?

There is no automatic border detection in this version. Select the rectangle to keep in the preview, or enter precise coordinates. Pixels outside that rectangle are removed; everything inside it remains.
