How to rotate or flip a GIF
- Choose the GIF and check its current orientation.
- Select the rotation angle. For a mirror effect, choose Horizontal or Vertical under Flip; you can combine a rotation and a flip.
- Process and check the orientation, text and animation before downloading.
Understand the direction controls
| Setting | What to choose |
|---|---|
| 90° / 270° | 90° turns clockwise; 270° turns counterclockwise. Both exchange width and height. |
| 180° | Turns the picture upside down without exchanging width and height. |
| Horizontal / Vertical | Horizontal swaps left and right. Vertical swaps top and bottom. Flips are applied after rotation. |
| GIF input | Up to 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on paid plans. Maximum side: 4,096 px; at most 1,000 frames and 50 million frame pixels (width × height × frames). |
A single result must be 50 MB or smaller. GIF results sent to the compressor must also fit its input limit: 10 MB on Free or 50 MB on a paid plan.
Example: rotate a 640 × 360 GIF by 90°
The output becomes 360 × 640. A 180° rotation would stay 640 × 360. A flip by itself also keeps the original dimensions. The tool changes the frame pixels, so the result does not depend on a viewer honoring an orientation tag.
Check lettering before using a mirror effect
A horizontal flip reverses text and logos as well as the subject. If a recording is only sideways, use rotation without a flip. Arbitrary angles such as 45° are not available in this version.
If the corrected animation has unwanted edges, crop it afterward. Use resize when the orientation is correct but it needs different pixel dimensions.
Questions about this tool
Can I rotate a GIF without turning it into a still image?
Yes. Rotation and flipping apply to every animation frame. The output stays GIF, with the source frame delays and loop setting.
How do I rotate a GIF left?
Choose 270°, which is a 90° counterclockwise turn. Choose 90° for a clockwise turn. You can process again from the original if you pick the wrong direction.
Does rotating reduce quality or file size?
Quarter turns and flips do not need to scale the picture, but the GIF is encoded again. File size can increase or decrease, and this is not a lossless-file optimization promise. Check the preview and result size.
Can I rotate just one frame?
No. These controls apply to the whole animation. This version has no frame-by-frame editor or custom-angle rotation.
